It looks like the rumored coalition between Yushchenko's Our Ukraine, Tymoshenko's bloc, and the Socialists has finally been solidified. This reunites the "Orange" team, though the circumstances have changed greatly in the intervening 16 months.

Ukraine must be seen for what it is. It is still a post-Soviet space: demoralized, uncertain of itself, somewhat depressive, internally divided, to a degree criminalized. It needs time and political will to overcome these problems.
The Party of Regions Received some 27.5%, BYT – some 21.6%, Our Ukraine – some 15.6%, SPU – some 5.5%, the People' Block of Lytvyn – some 5.1%, CPU – some 4.7%, the Block of Natalia Vitrenko – some 3.2%.
Interesting first hand accouints from a few cities across Ukraine by election observer volunteers from the US.

[Party of Regions frontrunner] Yanukovych was sentenced to three years in prison for robbery and assault in 1967, at age 17, but was released because he was a juvenile. The conviction was annulled when the alleged victim withdrew his statement.

I'm surprised he couldn't get "crusader" a few more times in there. Sounds like he's piggy backing on existing sentiment, and making an appeal for more money.
While the poll margin between the two parties seemed pretty even, the frustration with the level of corruption suggests that voters were fed up with their local representatives, which would account for the huge margin Hamas won over Fatah in the local representative list.
Nothing gets out the democratic spirit quite like an election, and there's a humdinger of one approaching in Ukraine later this month.
